I love my life, I really do. My fun loving energetic personality loves the novelty of committing to work by airplane, then meeting new people each and every time I go to work. Everybody knows that summer brings on vacation time. Which brings on more flights for those of us in the airline industry to work, more fun places to go, more people to meet. This also brings the requirement of being gone away from home more days. Thus more things to balance in life.
Each year when May comes around with the added travel and work load it takes me a couple of weeks to get myself back into balance. This week, I put in 41 hours at 35,000 feet, commuted home for my two days off, do laundry, pay bills, clean, spend time with my hubby and do some networking for my home business. Just this morning, I was running late to my weekly Tri-State Business Networking meeting. I had myself in such a rushed state, I was on autopilot driving the car to the meeting. I park the car, rush into the building, hit 4 on the elevator, the door opens and I’m in the wrong place! I know for a fact I’m in the right location for the meeting on Wednesday, so I’m just thinking that maybe it is floor 3 not 4. My schedule has not permitted me to attend a meeting for about 4 weeks, so I’m thinking I just forgot what floor the meeting was on. So, I hit the 3 button. Door opens – no that’s not it either. Then it hits me, I must be in the wrong building. Now, not only am I late, I’m embarrassed and frustrated with myself. I don’t like being late, embarrassed or frustrated. My fear of failure is really starting to creep in.
MLM is a lot like the rest of your life. When you are trying to achieve a goal, especially in an area that is new to you, you are not going to do it in a straight line. There will always be some setbacks. So just be aware of that and be prepared to handle the frustrations. The best way I’ve found to do this is to have a really, really big reason and meaningful reason to be successful. The bigger your reason, the more it ties into what you value in life, the tougher it will be for you to give up when times get tough. As you’re getting started, it’s crucial to picture your reason and write it out and look at it and think about it every day. Ask yourself, “What REALLY gets me excited?” “What do I really value in life?”
What type of things have you done that you really loved – or hated? Is there something you’d do forever, even if you weren’t getting paid for it? What do you most like to do in your free time? When you’re very successful, what changes will you make in your lifestyle? How do you act with the people you are closest to, and are you in the best possible position to create those relationships the way you want them to be? What changes would you see in those relationships if you had no money problems? Would you devote more time to spend with the people you love if you didn’t have to commute to a job every day?
When you know the answers to questions like these, you have a foundation for your long term drive and goal that will allow you to keep moving toward your MLM success. I could have very easily given up on making the Tri-State Business Networking meeting all together this morning. I can honestly tell you that my burning desire for happiness, balance, financial independence, recognition, and intimacy all equal freedom for me. Freedom to do whatever I want, whenever I want with whom ever I want. My drive for freedom is what kept me moving away from my fear of failure and toward my goal and attending the meeting instead of quitting on myself and heading home.
