In my post “Are you Scarring Away Your Prospects” I shared that the yellow personality is open’ and indirect. Yellows are considered open because they are friendly and willing to answer your questions; however they are indirect because they are careful with their answers. The Yellow personality does not want to offend anyone. Their voice is soft and gentle. The yellow personality believes that you can get far more done with kindness than you can by being harsh. They are extremely helpful people. It is difficult for a yellow personality to say NO. They dislike confrontation.

These soft spoken gentle individuals are usually nurses, teachers, counselors, therapist or in some form of profession that allows them to help others. These caring individuals are great team members, you can count on them to do whatever is necessary. You will not find them in the front of the room running a meeting; however they will help get things done behind the scenes.

These kind, gentle individuals can be overly sensitive and they hate confrontation. They will do almost anything to avoid it.

If you have one of these kind, gentle individual on your team, the best way to help them help them learn how not to take rejection personally. One of the ways I do this is to share the waitress story. When you are at a restaurant and the waitress takes your order, then ask you if you would like “fries with that” and you say no, are you rejecting them as a person? No, of course not. Well it really is the same for your opportunity. If you can help this kind, gentle person to understand that, they become wonderful leaders.

When sharing your opportunity with an individual that you have figured out is yellow, talk about family and friends. Share with them about how they have helped others. Relate your opportunity to any of these areas.

Yellow

Yellows make up 35% percent of the population. Being pushy or overly demanding will turn them away. Showing too much excitement about your business, products, or people connected with the company appears as hype to these kind, gentle individuals.

Michael Dlouhy incorporates this training at Mentoring For Free. An overview is found starting at page 62 in the free e-book ‘Success in 10 Steps’. Tom “Big Al” Schreiter over at Fortune Now dot com also has some wonderful CDs on this topic.

Next week I’ll share information on the `Blue’ personality.
