How much do you like it when someone calls up to sell you something? Most people put up their salesmen approaching alarm. That’s how just about how every one feels when you mention the words home based business or network marketing. Nobody wants some pushy, aggressive salesman using techniques to close them into their affiliate program. Knowing how most people feel about pushy, aggressive techniques, you sure as heck would never want to do that yourself.

So why would you ever think you could build an MLM business by selling? That is still the business-building and marketing technique that most MLM gurus teach – sell and close. You know how nobody wants to sell or be sold to, so how will you ever make money or have success getting others to take a look at your opportunity that way?

In my experience, what works is investing the time to talk with people. Find out why they are seeking a business opportunity. What their

dreams are. Do they want to travel? What are their cash flow and money frustrations? It’s important to really listen so you learn what really motivates a person, and what they see as the stumbling blocks. Then talk to them about how you can work together as a team to solve that problem. Focus on building a close relationship with the person, which you will never do if you try to sell them. Then you have a team building system.

You probably already know the failure rate is high in most businesses and your MLM opportunity is no different. If you can avoid sounding like a pushy, aggressive salesman and build relationships, then you have a real chance to make a long-term living from network marketing, maybe even achieve the “retirement” dream.

Just the other day a friend of mine asked me “What was the worst thing you ever spent your money on?” I have to admit it was the thousands of dollars I spent on training from one of those “gurus” and buying leads from their lead generating company. I spent so much, that I’ve never admitted the total to my husband. Do not make my same mistake. Not one person joined me in my business from all the leads I called using their “closing” techniques. Take a few moments of your time and read the book Success in 10 Steps. It’s definitely a book worth reading. The money I never spent! It’s free.

Hi. this is kind of an “unconventional” question , but have other visitors asked you how get the menu bar to look like you’ve got it? I also have a blog and am really looking to alter around the theme, however am scared to death to mess with it for fear of the search engines punishing me. I am very new to all of this …so i am just not positive exactly how to try to to it all yet. I’ll just keep working on it one day at a time.

Kai – You are so right, team building is also necessary for successful businesses with employees. I don’t believe there would be much to sports if there was no team building. Thanks for your comments. – Debi
